Where is Jimmy Carter’s funeral?
Memorial services for Carter – a Democrat who served as president from 1977 to 1981 – will be in three parts.
He’ll start in his hometown of Plains, Georgia before heading to Washington and then back to the southern state.
On Jan. 4, a motorcade will pass through Carter’s small hometown of Plains and the Carter Presidential Center for a state public service. will stop by his childhood home before heading to Atlanta on his way to the Capitol.
Carter’s remains will be at the Presidential Library on January 5 and 6.
He will be flown to the nation’s capital on January 7, where ceremonies at the US Navy Memorial will begin before a horse-drawn procession to the US Capitol.
For two days he will lie in state in the US Capitol Rotunda, where the public can pay his respects.
His life will be commemorated Jan. 9 at a service at the Washington National Cathedral, attended by several former presidents.

Former presidents and first ladies usually attend the funerals of their predecessors, so others such as first lady Jill Biden and former president Barack Obama may also attend. Hillary and Bill Clinton are also expected to arrive there.
President-elect Donald Trump has confirmed he will attend. He did not attend Rosalynn Carter’s funeral last year, but his wife Melania did, along with other former first ladies.
Trump attended Republican George HW Bush’s Washington service. There were five living presidents, including Carter.
What is closed on National Day of Mourning?
President Biden said in an executive order that the US federal government will be closed on January 9 for a national day of mourning.
Financial markets, including the New York Stock Exchange, will also remain closed on the day.
The American flag will be flown at all federal buildings for 30 days.
