Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s journey after divorce teaches us the power of resilience, accepting one’s truth, and finding strength in new beginnings despite societal judgment.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who is known for maintaining a largely private personal life, spoke about the challenges she faced after her divorce from actor Naga Chaitanya. After nearly four years of marriage, the couple separated in 2021. In a candid interview with Galata India, Samantha spoke about the social judgement, stigma, and emotional toll that divorce often brings, especially to women.
“When a woman goes through a divorce, there’s a lot of shame and stigma attached to it.” “I have received countless comments saying ‘second hand’, ‘used’ or saying I ‘wasted my life,'” he said. Society pushes you into a corner, you’re expected to feel like a failure, it’s not only difficult for women to not get married anymore;
Samantha also highlighted how women often face more scrutiny than men both online and in their personal lives. Reflecting on her experience, she said, “For years, I dealt with misrepresentations about my life. Many times, I wanted to tell the truth, but I held back. I talked to myself. : ‘What do you gain from telling your side of the story?’ There may be a momentary sense of help, but it’s desperate. The same people who support you today may be against you tomorrow for the slightest reason.”
Despite the pain, Samantha chose to retell her narrative in a unique way. She repurposed her wedding dress as a statement of resilience. “Initially, it’s painful,” she admitted. But then I decided to flip it. I will own it. I’m separated, I’m divorced, my life isn’t a fairy tale, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to sit in a corner crying and lose the courage to live again, revenge or that. There was nothing, though that was my way of saying it. But my life does not end here.
Today, Samantha continues to thrive personally and professionally. “I’m happy, working with incredible people, and looking forward to the next phase of my life,” she asserted.
