The pop star announced the cancellation of her Jan. 25 concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, citing “out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County” amid the ongoing devastating wildfires.
The deadly fires have significantly affected the region, prompting the four-time Grammy winner to prioritize community recovery efforts.
The concert was initially planned as part of the launch of The Weeknd’s upcoming album. Hurry up tomorrowIt was originally scheduled to release on January 24. The album’s release has now been pushed back to January 31.
In his social media statement, The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfai, expressed his solidarity with those affected: “This city has always been a deep source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts go out to everyone affected at this time. are with the individual.”
He further emphasized his commitment to support recovery efforts, adding, “My focus is on helping these communities recover and supporting its incredible people as they rebuild.”
The Rose Bowl, currently serving as a staging area for emergency response efforts for the Eaton Fire, has been instrumental in assisting the fire and police departments of Pasadena and other area agencies.
The Eaton Fire in Altadena has burned more than 14,117 acres in Altadena, Pasadena and parts of the Sierra Madre, with tragic results: 11 deaths and 1,902 structures destroyed. As of Monday afternoon, the fire was 33 percent contained.
