An ad for a clothing brand filmed on the wedding day of reality TV stars Vicky Pattison and Erkan Ramadan has been banned for glamorizing smoking.
The ad for Endrick Clothing, owned by Ramadan and based in Waltham Abbey, Essex, shows the bride and groom smoking cigars.
It was shared in October on his Instagram account and that of his wife Pattison – who has 5.5 million followers.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said it had upheld the two complaints and “concluded that the ads were irresponsible”.
The ads can still be seen on their Instagram accounts, but the ASA said they “must not reappear in the form complained of”.
“We consider that the video glamorizes smoking and suggests that it is part of a glamorous and aspirational lifestyle”. said the ruler.
Former Geordie Shore star Pattison married Ramadan at London’s Marylebone Town Hall in August before holding a second ceremony and party in Italy in September.
It was filmed for an E4 TV show called Vicky Pattison: My Big Fat Geordie Wedding.
The ASA also criticized Ramzan for not clarifying that the film was an advertisement and for not responding to its queries.
“We concluded that the ad was not clearly identifiable as a marketing communication and thus breached the code,” it said.
“We asked Endrick Clothing Ltd and Ercan Ramadan to ensure that future advertising is socially responsible, specifically by not condoning or encouraging smoking”.
The ASA added that Pattison confirmed that any future posts featuring Endrick Clothing would be labeled as advertisements.
Pattison and Ramzan have been contacted for comment.
