Parachinar: A 125-member jirga consisting of Ulemas and tribal chiefs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan visited Sada and Parachinar on Thursday and held talks with chiefs of the respective parties for lasting peace in the war-torn district.
Sources say that the 125-member Pakhtun Aman Jirga of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan’s Ulemas and Elders held detailed discussions with the elders of the respective parties in Sada and Parachinar areas of Karam district. Scholars and elders of both parties attended the meetings and assured full support for the peace initiative. Jirga members including Mufti Kifayatullah, Naseer Khan Kokikhel, Amanullah Wazir, Hamid Sherani and others said that the purpose of holding Jirga in Pakhtun belt is to take steps for peace in the conflict-affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He expressed deep sorrow over the recent violence in Karam district which resulted in loss of precious lives and damage to property.
The members of the Jirga said that they did not accept anyone’s request, rather they themselves felt the need to play a role in establishing peace and will continue their efforts until peace is restored. On this occasion, the leaders of both the parties warmly welcomed the Jirga and assured their full cooperation.
The Jirga will continue its talks today (Friday) with the leaders of the respective parties in Karam.
