Unanimous Resolution Passed: KP Assembly opposes possible operation in Khyber, Bannu.

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Friday passed a unanimous resolution against the possible operation in Khyber and Bannu districts and urged for dialogue to resolve the issues.

The Assembly session was chaired by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of Provincial Assembly from Khyber district Abdul Ghani and Member of Assembly of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam F from Bannu Adnan Wazir presented a joint resolution.

The resolution said that preparations are being made to start operations in Tirah valley of Khyber district and Jani Khel and Baka Khel districts of Bannu. He said that this operation would be a great injustice to the people living there. The assembly members said in the resolution that the operation is not a solution to any problem. He said that many operations were launched in the past and he questioned the results. The resolution demanded that instead of launching an operation, a solution to the problem should be found through negotiations.

The resolution said that this assembly through a resolution recommended to the KP government to ask the federal government to refrain from operations in Tirah Valley and Bannu areas of Jani Khel and Baka Khel in order to render people homeless. The Speaker said that this issue should be discussed in the KP Assembly. He said that a special committee will be formed on this issue next week. He announced that the recommendations of the committee will be submitted to the provincial and federal governments.

The assembly also approved the “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Amendment Bill 2024”, which will bring changes in the governance of public sector universities in the province.

The bill presented by the Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan was passed by the Assembly by a majority vote.

The chief minister will now act as the chancellor of all public sector universities in place of the governor. It will have the power to appoint Vice-Chancellors.
