PESHAWAR: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Umar Ayub filed a contempt of court petition in the Peshawar High Court on Saturday, demanding action against the Punjab Police personnel for arresting them despite PHC orders and security warrants.

In the petition, Umar Ayub has named Inspector General Police Punjab, Usman Anwar Rawalpindi and district police officers of Attock and Superintendent of Police Sadar Rawalpindi as defendants.

The petition stated that the petitioner was granted protective bail by the PHC till December 19, yet the Rawalpindi Police arrested the petitioner on his way to Adiala Jail and detained him.

It was pleaded in the petition that the defendants have violated the orders of the PHC and the action of the police amounts to contempt of court.
