LAHORE: A delegation of students from the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Friday visited the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab to gain an insight into its disaster management system.

During the visit, the students were briefed about the operational framework of PDMA Punjab to deal with natural calamities. He visited the PDMA control room, where Director General (DG) Irfan Ali Kathia highlighted the authority’s round-the-clock communication system with all districts of Punjab.

The DG of PDMA explained that PDMA is on high alert to deal with challenges like floods, dengue, drought, smog, and heat waves. Flood

Addressing the delegation, the DG highlighted the seriousness of climate change in Pakistan and emphasized that tackling smog and other climate challenges are top priorities of the Punjab government.

Students were also introduced to PDMA’s flood simulation model and gained insight into the authority’s response mechanisms and rehabilitation efforts of disaster-affected families. Students actively participated in the session asking questions about PDMA’s operations and victim rehabilitation programmes.

DG Kathia assured that financial assistance is provided to the families affected by the calamities under the policies of the Punjab government. At the end of the visit, the students appreciated the active steps taken by the Punjab government for the rehabilitation of the flood victims. The DG presented a commemorative shield to the delegation.
