Shangla: In Chaksar area of Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, terrorists attacked a police post with a hand grenade as a result of which 2 policemen were martyred and 3 injured. Geo News reported on Tuesday.
According to the police, the martyred officials have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Hasan Khan and Constable Nisar Khan, while Moharrar Arshad Khan, Constable Arshad Khan and Constable Rifat are injured.
The police further said that the injured policemen have been shifted to a hospital in Bitgram for treatment.
Terrorist attacks are on the rise in KP and Balochistan provinces, particularly targeting law enforcement agencies and security forces.
In a separate gun attack in Swabi’s Parmoli police station limits, a police constable was martyred when militants opened fire on him, The News reported.
Zubair Muhammad, the brother of the slain policeman, told the police that Ishtiaq Ahmed was returning from his poultry farm when he was targeted by militants late on Monday night.
He said that Ishtiaq was last posted in the subdivision of Peshawar Electric Supply Company.
On the other hand, gunmen opened fire on polio workers in separate attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, killing two, as violence continued on the first day of the nationwide anti-polio campaign.
A policeman who was providing security to the polio vaccination team in Shakarkhel area of Banda Dawood Shah of Kirk was martyred when he was shot by armed assailants.
Police said that a polio worker was also injured in the attack.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a polio worker was shot dead in Kala Khel Masti Khan area of Bannu while he was on his way to work.
According to a report released by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the third quarter (July-September) of 2024 saw a sharp rise in terrorist violence and casualties from counter-terrorism operations, which 90% increase in violence.
A total of 722 people were killed, including civilians, security personnel and illegals, while 615 others were injured in 328 cases assessed.
About 97 percent of these deaths occurred in KP and Balochistan – the highest percentage in a decade, and more than 92 percent of these incidents of terrorist attacks and security forces operations were recorded in the same provinces.
The total deaths from the three quarters of this year have now surpassed the total recorded for the whole of 2023. The number of deaths rose to at least 1,534 in the first three quarters, compared to 1,523 in 2023.
Meanwhile, terrorist groups continue to reorganize and strengthen their ranks. According to the report, most of the terrorist attacks went unpunished by terrorist or insurgent groups, possibly due to tactics.
