US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will visit Paris this Saturday to attend the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral.
The historic cathedral, which was heavily damaged in a fire five years ago, has been extensively restored.
This visit will be the former president’s first foreign visit after winning the election.
The Gothic masterpiece, one of the French capital’s most beloved and visited monuments, will reopen its doors to tourists and the Catholic faithful this weekend.
Major reconstruction works have restored the 12th-century cathedral to its former glory, with its spire, rib vaulting, flying buttresses, stained glass windows and carved stone gargoyles, with white Stone and gold decorations are shining brighter than ever.
Trump, who won the November 5 election and is set to take office on January 20, praised French President Emmanuel Macron’s government in a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Monday.
“President Emmanuel Macron has done a wonderful job ensuring that Notre Dame is restored to its full level of glory, and more. A very special day for all. It will be!” he wrote.
