Trump says call Sylvester Stallone, Jon Voight, Mel Gibson ‘Mr. Ambassador’

Donald Trump says people now have to refer to Mel GibsonSylvester Stallone, and Jon Voight as “Mr. Ambassador.”

The incoming president announced the honorific designation on stage at the “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, one day before Trump is inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States.

“Also with us tonight is a great actor, tremendously talented guy, Jon Voight, who’s great, and a friend mine,” he said toward the end of his hour-long address. “And Sylvester Stallone is here — great guy. And you know I got Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone, and Jon Voight to become ambassadors to Hollywood, Calif., to put it back on track. So they’re all ambassadors. You have to refer to them as ambassadors, ‘Mr. Ambassador.'”

In the hours before Trump’s address, Voight made an appearance on the rally stage, vowing that Trump “will make America great again, safe again. We the people will honor our flag again.” and praised Trump’s victory as the “greatest win of all time — the victory we were all fighting for to save our country, our democracy. I’m so grateful to say that Donald J. Trump is the 47th president of the United States.”

Trump first signaled his intention to appoint the roster of conservative actors to the unprecedented position on Jan. 16. “It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

He continued to explain, “They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK — BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE! These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!”

After the announcement, Gibson, who recently lost his Malibu home in the Palisades fire, told Entertainment Weekly that he wasn’t aware Trump would be handing him the new role.

“I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised. Nevertheless,” he remarked, “I heed the call… My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can. Any chance the position comes with an ambassador’s residence?”

Voight also shared his sentiments with EW on the day of the official announcement, reflecting that he’s “old enough to have touched some years of the Golden Age of Hollywood, and I’ve seen its slow deterioration since. Today, we are in pretty bad shape. Very few films are made here now, but we are fortunate to have an incoming President, who wants to restore Hollywood to its former glory, and with his help, I feel we can get done.”

Each of the actors have expressed their ardent support for Trump over the years. Gibson was seen saluting Trump at a UFC event in 2021, and chatting with him at another UFC event in 2023. Stallone called Trump “the second George Washington” back in November, and Voight offered another Presidential comparison in 2019, calling Trump “the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln.”

During the rally, Voight concluded his speech with a prayer for the president-elect.

“I’m proud to call the president of the United States my friend,” the Megalopolis actor said, “our friend; my hero, our hero. A man who never gave up on the American people, and we the people, never gave up on him. God bless Donald Trump, and may God watch over him, and may he be sworn into the White House with the blessings of the Almighty.”
