During his election campaign, US President-elect Donald Trump promised to reduce the size of Washington DC’s bureaucracy and improve governance. This message resonated well with the majority of Americans, propelling Donald Trump to the presidency. The President-elect has now announced the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This new department will eliminate government bureaucracy, reduce over-regulatory systems and reduce additional costs.
I think this is a great initiative that will provide positive results for the American people. Unelected bureaucrats have become like legislatures and rulers in almost every country, costing economies billions of dollars annually. Usually, they face no real accountability even if they don’t perform well. I believe that the time has come to change the bureaucracy in Pakistan as well. The Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet should seriously consider creating their own version of DOGE. Improving the efficiency of the federal government will result in more economic growth and help improve public finances.
