Lahore: A couple committed suicide by consuming poison pills in Shahdara police station. The incident took place due to a domestic dispute related to poverty. The deceased have been identified as 27-year-old Majid and his 25-year-old wife Jameela Bibi, residents of Fazal Park Shahdara. The Edhi volunteers shifted the dead bodies to the mortuary.

According to the details, Rs 1.96 million was released for the cochlear implant surgery of Constable M Arshad’s daughter, Rs 1.96 million for the cochlear implant surgery of Constable Nadeem Ahmed’s son, and Rs 1.96 million for the cochlear implant surgery of Constable Abdul Hameed. Rs 1.83 million for son’s cochlear implant surgery, traffic warden M Ahad Rashid’s son, Rs 10 lakh for bone marrow transplant of Head Constable M Hasan’s daughter and Rs 73 for purchase of cochlear implant equipment for Head Constable M Hafeez’s son. A thousand rupees were issued.
Six cases registered in smog crackdown
In the last 24 hours, 6 cases were registered during the crackdown against smog across the province. At least 479 people were fined Rs 962,000 and 40 were issued warnings. 15 violations of crop residue burning, 387 of vehicles emitting excessive smoke, four of industrial activities, five of brick kilns, 13 of other places were reported. A total of 3716 accused were arrested and 3735 cases were registered in the anti-smog crackdown this year. 7,380 people were warned and 37,975 people were fined. 2,049 violations of crop residue burning, 33,001 of vehicles emitting excessive smoke, 364 of industrial activities, 1395 of brick kilns and 360 of other places were reported. The spokesperson of Punjab Police says that during the last 24 hours, 5 thousand 232 vehicles were issued challans for emitting excessive smoke, 405 were detained in police stations and fitness certificates of 5 were suspended.
This year, 859,528 challans were issued for emitting excessive smoke on the highways, 169,881 vehicles were impounded and fitness certificates of 10,094 vehicles were suspended.
Three transformer thieves were caught.
Three transformer thieves were arrested on Sunday. On a tip-off, the authorities under the supervision of Executive Engineer (XEN Rural) Abrar Khan arrested three suspects from Chongi Amar Sidhu area of Lahore who were stealing transformers in Khadian North area last night.
The thieves were handed over to the local police. The accused confessed to stealing 15 to 20 transformers from Kasur Circle. The accused are members of a 20-member gang of transformer thieves.
