ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a high-level committee comprising senior coalition government members for talks with the main opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which has warned that If the government started a civil disobedience movement. Demands are not met.
The committee includes Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Rana Sanaullah, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Abdul Aleem Khan and Chaudhry Salik Hussain.
A committee – including PTI leaders – to join the government was formed weeks ago by PTI founder Imran Khan, reflecting the party’s sense that a policy of confrontation Cannot be continued indefinitely.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister formed a negotiating body on the recommendation of National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
The development came less than a day after the NA Speaker confirmed reaching out to the Prime Minister for the formation of a negotiating committee, after the PTI’s assurance of a role in the mediation, which on the Govt. Accused of not being serious in the negotiations.
He said that I accept Barrister Gauhar Khan’s proposal to form a negotiation committee.
Sadiq said that the PTI chairman has recognized the role of the Speaker as the watchdog of the House and requested him to actively participate in the talks.
According to the sources, the parliamentary committee will be entrusted with the full authority to deliberate on important negotiation points and take decisions related to the negotiations between the government and the opposition.
It may be noted that this development comes amid a civil disobedience movement by the PTI, which says it will launch the first phase of the campaign from today (Sunday) if its demands are not met.
Meanwhile, the government maintains that negotiations cannot proceed under threat of civil disobedience or deadlines.
