The third and final T20 between Pakistan and South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium was called off due to incessant rain, with the Proteas winning the series 2–0.
Despite high expectations for an exciting end to the series, the match was marred by continuous light to heavy rain and lightning, which led to the toss not being completed.
As the weather worsened throughout the day, it became clear that no play would be possible.
This marks Mohammad Rizwan’s second T20I series defeat as Pakistan captain, the first being a 3–0 series whitewash against Australia in November.
The hosts emerged victorious in the first two matches in Durban and Centurion.
In the series opener, South Africa posted a massive 183/9 in their innings with explosive performances from David Miller and all-rounder George Linde.
Miller played a brilliant innings of 82 runs off 40 balls which included four fours and eight sixes.
Linde scored 48 off 24 balls with a brilliant cameo, including three fours and four sixes.
In Pakistan’s reply they were restricted to 172/8, with Rizwan top-scoring with 72 off 64 balls, which included five fours and three sixes.
Saeem Ayub added valuable 31 runs off 15 balls but Pakistan’s middle order collapsed and they lost the match by 11 runs.
In the second T20I, Pakistan posted 206/5, aided by a phenomenal innings from Saeem Ayub, who scored 98 not out off 57 balls, including eleven fours and five sixes.
Irfan Niazi also played an important role, he scored 30 runs off 16 balls while Abbas Afridi added 11 runs off four balls.
However, South Africa comfortably chased down the target for the loss of just three wickets in 19.3 overs.
Reza Hendricks was the star with a match-winning century, scoring 117 off 63 balls that included seven fours and 10 sixes.
Rasi van der Dusen remained unbeaten on 66 off 38 balls, guiding his team to victory.
With the T20I series now over, both the teams will turn their attention to the upcoming ODI series, the first of which is scheduled for December 17 at Boland Park, Paarl.
