The Experimental Food & Travel Guide recently announced its 2024/25 awards shortlist. Ever since the awards were announced, Indian food and cuisine has been on everyone’s mind, as several Indian cuisines and countries topped various categories. While Indian cuisine overall is ranked 12th in the “World’s 100 Best Foods” list, 4 Indian dishes make it to the “World’s 100 Best Foods” list and all of these dishes are substandard. . – Vegetarian dishes.Celebrating culinary excellence across the globe, the guide also announced the list of “World’s 100 Best Food Regions”, where 6 cities in India have made it to the world’s best cities for food.

The Indian city of dreams – Mumbai was at number 5, and impressed people with its wonderful mix of street food and traditional dishes. The city’s street food, including bheel puri, pav bhaji, vada pav, and ragga patties, reflects its cosmopolitan food culture. Notable eateries like Ram Ashriya, Shree Thakur Bhojanale, and Cafe Madras get special mention for their contribution to Mumbai’s culinary identity.
Among the highlights was Amritsar, which secured the 43rd position, showcasing India’s rich culinary heritage globally. Amritsar is praised for its hearty, flavorful dishes. Famous dishes like Amritsari Kalcha, Chicken Tikka, Shahi Paneer, Tandoori Chicken, and Saag Paneer capture the essence of the region’s vibrant food culture. The Taste Atlas Emphasizes the deep-rooted culinary traditions of the region and the bold flavors that make Punjabi cuisine famous around the world.
In the top 50 list, New Delhi and Hyderabad are at 45 and 50 places, which are already famous for their variety of street foods. On the other hand, two other Indian cities that made it to the top 100 cities where people love to eat – Kolkata and Chennai which ranked 71st and 75th respectively.
Topping the list is Naples in Italy, already known for its ‘Napoleonic Pizza’ which was recently added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The city is known as the birthplace of ‘pizza’ and has a lot of street foods to offer visitors.
