ISLAMABAD: The United States has said it will continue to invest in Pakistan’s future through initiatives in areas such as education, English language learning, entrepreneurship and exchange programs.
According to a spokesperson of the US Embassy in Islamabad, these projects reflect the strong and enduring partnership between the US and Pakistan, which aims to promote mutual growth and development.
“The United States is helping build Pakistan’s future through strategic investments in a variety of sectors, including energy, water, agriculture and infrastructure,” he said in a video message on the New Year.
The spokesman said that 2024 has been an important year for Pakistan-US relations, an era of strong partnership and mutual progress. He said that the US played a significant role in increasing Pakistan’s energy potential, particularly through investment in the Mangla and Tarbela hydropower projects.
According to him, “These measures increased energy supply and improved access to electricity for millions of Pakistanis.” He also highlighted the US Climate Smart Agriculture Project, saying that the $24 million initiative will reduce flood risks and hazards, restore groundwater levels and provide clean drinking water to people in the Indus River Basin. is critical in ensuring year-round accessibility.
The spokesman said the US partnership helped improve agricultural production in Pakistan with improved access to modern seeds, skills, technology and markets, increased agricultural income by $1.4 billion and created 0.1 million jobs.
He also highlighted the growing number of US-supported health care projects in Pakistan, which, he said, have contributed to improving public health and well-being. According to him, initiatives in the areas of disease prevention, malnutrition, and improved sanitation have helped improve the quality of life and save lives in the country.
“In 2014, US-backed programs helped Pakistan fight diseases like polio and tuberculosis, as well as improve access to clean drinking water and sanitation.” Expressing confidence in the creativity and resilience of Pakistan’s youth, the spokesperson highlighted the US investment in the country’s education sector, especially for the youth.
