The Unite union has threatened to stop the supply of turkeys to supermarkets this Christmas.
It said it was taking action in protest against Shropshire-based logistics company Killina, which it says had not offered its delivery drivers a pay rise.
About 40 of its members were preparing to go on strike on December 19 and 20.
Culina’s contract is with Hereford-based Stray Foods, which supplies chicken to warehouses belonging to Tesco and Marks and Spencer, and which said it hoped ongoing talks would lead to an “agreed solution”.
The Unite union has warned that its planned industrial action could result in a “shortage of Christmas turkeys” and that families “could see empty tables this Christmas”.
He accused Culina of playing Scrooge and said: “Despite being in pay talks since April, no offer has been made to drivers who have been left with no choice but to take industrial action. “
The union also warned that more strike dates could be announced if the company does not return to the negotiating table with a better offer.
A Wanderer spokesman said: “We understand that discussions between Culina and Unite are ongoing and we hope they can reach a mutually agreed solution.
“We expect to fulfill our Christmas promises for Turkey”
