Britain’s economy expanded for the first time in three months, growing 0.1% in November.
Official data showed the economy expanded after contracting in each of the previous two months.
A return to growth would be a welcome sign for the government after the recent turmoil in financial markets when its borrowing costs hit multi-year highs and the pound fell.
It also comes after Chancellor Rachel Reeves pledged to go “further and faster” to improve economic growth to raise living standards.
According to the Office for National Statistics, pubs, restaurants and IT companies performed well in the services sector, showing modest growth.
