The Biden administration has informally notified the US Congress of $8 billion in arms sales to Israel, including fighter jets. Ammunition for planes and attack helicopters is included, Axios reported Friday, citing two sources.

The report said the deal would require approval by House and Senate committees and includes artillery shells for fighter jets and air-to-air missiles to defend against threats such as drones.

The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“The President has made it clear that Israel has the right to defend its citizens in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law and to stop aggression by Iran and its proxy organizations”.

According to Axios, the package also includes small-diameter bombs and warheads.

Diplomatic efforts to end Israel’s 15-month war in Gaza have so far failed. President Joe Biden is scheduled to leave office on January 20, when Donald Trump will replace him.
