ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) in collaboration with the World Bank, through the Higher Education Development Major Project (HEDP) in Pakistan, has launched decentralized higher education institutions i.e. Affiliated Colleges (AC) and Affiliated Universities have focused on improving the quality of teaching and learning. (AUs) by establishing Quality Enhancement Units.
These tertiary institutions are often under-resourced and need constant support.
Quality Enhancement Cells in Affiliated Colleges (QECACs) within the Quality Enhancement Cells (QEC) in Affiliated Universities aim to support their affiliated colleges.
QECACs monitor various aspects of quality of education imparted in affiliated colleges such as faculty, evaluation system and curriculum etc.
A press release issued here on Wednesday said that it is the responsibility of these universities to ensure the quality of teaching of the authorized programs in their affiliated colleges.
QECACs periodically review all academic activities undertaken by the colleges and prepare self-evaluation reports.
The reports include an evaluation of the program offered in terms of program objectives, learning outcomes, availability of faculty, relevance of required content and resources required.
HEDP has established 45 Functional Units (QECACs) across Pakistan within QECs of affiliated universities.
HEDP supported universities by providing technical and financial support for QECACs.
Similarly, Quality Enhancement Cells (QECs), existing structures of universities established by HEC, were also revamped by HEDP to comply with HEC’s recently approved quality assurance framework.
