A Pakistan Coast Guard (PCG) officer, who was critically injured near Kathor on the M9 Motorway earlier this week, succumbed to injuries at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) on Friday.
The officer, identified as Naib Subedar Adil, was injured during a snap-checking operation conducted by Coast Guard personnel in response to reports of smuggling activities. The incident took place when a car traveling from Karachi to Hyderabad on the motorway was stopped near Ansari Bridge.
The driver of the vehicle, after flagging, swerved into the wrong lane, headed back towards Karachi, and tried to flee the scene. While escaping, the driver hit Adil, seriously injuring him.
The driver managed to escape on foot leaving the vehicle at a short distance. The injured official was first taken to Bakai Hospital for initial treatment and later shifted to JPMC, where he succumbed to his injuries.
On inspection, 41 sacks of supari and 100 gutka were found in the abandoned vehicle, confirming the suspicion of smuggling. A case was registered in Gadap police station. Police were actively investigating the incident and working to apprehend the suspect responsible for the officer’s death.
