Abbottabad: Abbottabad Institute of Teaching Quran Orphanage was cleared of all charges after an inquiry.

The orphanage’s executive body was suspended in October after a viral video went viral alleging mismanagement. However, the investigative committee’s findings exonerated the organization, and the executive body was now seeking immediate rehabilitation.

The current situation is placing an unnecessary burden on the orphanage, affecting its ability to provide essential services to those in need. Established in 1940, the orphanage has a long-standing reputation for providing vital services to the community. Its executive body urged the authorities to allow them to resume managing the institution.

In a letter written to the Institute for Social Welfare (a copy of which is with The News), Sajid Awan, former chairman and member of the general body of the Institute for Teaching Al-Qur’an, said that the institution is providing uninterrupted services.

“After the formation of Pakistan, it was registered with the Social Welfare Department under the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration and Control) Ordinance, 1961,” he pointed out in the letter.

He said that the director of the social welfare department has suspended the governing body of the institution without an inquiry based only on the baseless allegations made in the viral video.

Sajid Awan argued that the order issued under Section 9(1) and (2) of the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration and Control) Ordinance, 1961 appears to contradict the procedural standards established by the authority itself.

He said that parallel to the order of the Registration Authority, another notification was issued by the Secretary to the Commissioner of Hazara Division bearing No. 1/25/CHD/Secy/GB/6166-74 dated October 23, 2024.

Sajid Awan said a three-member audit/inquiry committee had been constituted, and its TORs committee had to submit its findings with recommendations within seven working days.
