ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf called on President Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) chief Nawaz Sharif and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) The possibility of Imran Khan at the appointed time.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting with PTI’s negotiation committee, former Prime Minister Ashraf said on Thursday that the current environment of the committee is positive.
He revealed that the PTI has not formally presented its demands but has demanded the release of workers and the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 and November 26 incidents.
He further said that PTI representatives have also sought time to consult their party leadership.
Focusing on the need for a new democratic charter, Ashraf said the country needed consensus to overcome the current political uncertainty and economic challenges.
He said that all parties need to come together to deal with the current economic and political crisis, adding that dialogue is essential for national stability.
Ashraf emphasized the importance of unity among political stakeholders, citing the current positive tone of the negotiation process as a promising sign for future cooperation.
The second round of talks between the government and the former ruling party took place on Thursday, which National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said was held in a cordial atmosphere.
The meeting was chaired by the Speaker of the National Assembly in the Constitution Committee Room of the Parliament House as he facilitated and guided the dialogue between the Finance and the Opposition.
The talks between the government and the PTI are taking place in the wake of the former ruling party’s announcement of a civil disobedience movement if its demands include the release of all political prisoners, including PTI founder Imran Khan, and an investigation into the May 9 incident. Therefore, the formation of the judicial commission was a riot and the incident of 26 November became inconclusive.
The jailed former prime minister had last month asked his supporters to start an anti-government movement by stopping remittances in the first phase.
After months of intense political tension, Imran’s founding party and government held the first round of talks last month.
In the meeting, it was decided that Tehreek-e-Insaaf will present its demands in writing to the government negotiation committee.
It was agreed that both sides are united in the fight against terrorism. On this occasion, tributes were also paid to the martyrs for their sacrifices. Support for standing side by side in the war against terrorism was also announced.
