PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced that the decision on the neutral venue for the Champions Trophy is expected today (Sunday), while also hinting at some promising news for Karachi regarding the tournament.
Speaking to the media after inspecting the ongoing renovation work at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, Naqvi addressed the Pakistan cricket team’s three-year deal to play against India at neutral venues.
He said that there are arrangements now, the future of such decisions depends on the next administration of PCB.
Naqvi clarified that “The issue of India not coming to Pakistan is well known. However, there will be no financial loss due to their absence. The ICC will increase the allowance for extra expenses for matches at neutral venues.” Naqvi clarified.
He further said that it is the responsibility of ICC to announce the Champions Trophy schedule, however, PCB has made some suggestions, which are under discussion. It will be decided soon, and Karachi is expected to host a significant number of matches during the tournament.
On the renovation work at the National Bank Stadium, Naqvi expressed satisfaction over the progress, saying that efforts are being made to ensure that the venue is ready on time.
“We want to develop a top-class stadium. Construction work will be completed as per schedule, and floodlights will be installed soon,” he assured.
Earlier, Naqvi visited the National Bank Stadium and reviewed the progress of its upgradation. They were briefed by officials about the ongoing work and directed to ensure timely completion. PCB Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed Syed and other officials also accompanied him during the visit.
The Champions Trophy is scheduled for 2025, and Pakistan is gearing up to host the tournament with renovations nearing completion at three stadiums in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore.
