Rawalpindi: The dengue fever outbreak, which proved to be the worst in nature and impact in the history of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, is nearing its seasonal end.
Data collected by ‘The News’ on Saturday revealed that only three people from Rawalpindi district have tested positive for the infection during the last 24 hours, while daily positive cases are increasing. The number of patients has been reduced to below seven. last week.
The data shows that during the last one week, 48 patients of dengue fever have been confirmed in the district, whereas during the last week, an average of 18 patients of dengue fever were confirmed daily from the district. Significantly, dengue fever has claimed as many as 11 lives from the district this year even though the infection has claimed no lives in the last five weeks. A total of 6,581 confirmed dengue cases have been reported from the district so far this year.
A rapid decrease in the number of dengue fever patients is being recorded from the district. Many experts believe that the drop in temperature, as in the past, is playing an important role in controlling the outbreak. The current trend of reduction in the number of patients is due to cold weather which restricts mosquito activity especially outside homes and offices.
It is worth mentioning here that in low temperature, the mosquito that causes dengue fever, Aedes aegypti, is unable to bite due to weak energy in the joints which does not allow them to take a firm grip and climb on the human body. to suck blood.
According to health experts, only sporadic cases of infection will emerge after a week or so, but they say that indoor surveillance is very important at this time to avoid dengue fever cases because the temperature inside the houses affects growth and survival. The number of confirmed dengue patients under treatment at the city’s three teaching hospitals, including Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital, stood at eight on Saturday, up from 65 two weeks ago.
