Islamabad: The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad has ordered the police to arrest and produce Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in a case related to the recovery of illegal arms and liquor.

The directive came after Gandapur and his legal team failed to attend a court hearing scheduled for Monday.

Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hasan held the hearing and expressed his displeasure over the non-implementation of court orders. The court was told that the investigating officer of the case is also absent.

Expressing anger at the non-cooperation, the judge remarked that “the accused did not appear and neither did his lawyer.”

He added that the SSP Operations had failed to submit a compliance report regarding the non-bailable arrest warrant issued earlier against Gandapur.

The court has now adjourned the hearing till January 21, reiterating the order to execute the arrest warrant of the law enforcement agencies and ensure the presence of Gandapur at the next hearing.

In October 2016, a case was registered against the PTI leader after five Kalashnikov rifles, a pistol, six magazines, a bulletproof jacket, three teargas shells and liquor bottles were recovered.

The police had claimed that they had discovered the contraband during a raid, leading to the filing of charges under the Pakistan Penal Code.

Senior PTI leader and former federal minister Gandapur has denied these allegations and called them politically motivated.
