According to a report, 1,314 cases are pending in Sindh’s 30 anti-terrorism courts, with a conviction rate of less than 20 percent in various cases. This report was submitted to the Supreme Court by the Administrative Judge of the Anti-Terrorism Courts. The report revealed that Sindh has the highest number of pending cases in anti-terrorism courts. According to the report, 30 courts have been established in the province to hear terrorism cases, 20 of which are located in Karachi. Currently, 1314 terrorism cases are pending in Sindh courts.
The report further revealed that by the end of 2023, a total of 1448 cases were pending in the courts of the province. So far this year, 975 cases have been decided, out of which 787 accused have been acquitted due to lack of evidence. The report also highlighted that the ATC has decided six bomb blast cases this year, acquitting all the accused. Additionally, 79 murder cases were decided, but the prosecution was able to prove the charges in only 23 cases. Additionally, 92 cases of kidnapping for ransom were adjudicated, with only five cases resulting in convictions.
