Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi presided over a meeting on Friday to review the progress of beautification and rehabilitation projects of important roads in the city.
The roads under focus include Shaara Faisal, II Chandrigar Road, Shahrah Quaidin, and Marine Promenade. During the meeting, Naqvi directed the officials to speed up the repair and maintenance of roads, footpaths and utility chambers, especially to address the problems faced by pedestrians on II Chandragarh Road and other important areas.
The meeting also reviewed measures to cover open manholes, repair utility chambers, install street lights, shift garbage dumps from prominent areas and ensure cleanliness across the city. Among the senior officers present in the meeting were Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Rabia Syed, Assistant Commissioner General Hazem Bangwar, Sindh Waste Management Board Managing Director Tariq Nizamani, Regional Director Local Government Ramzan Pathan, Director General Municipal Services Tariq Mughal and Karachi Development Officers. were present Authority (KDA) Chief Engineer Abdul Samad.
Each Deputy Commissioner provided updates on ongoing projects in their respective districts aimed at improving civic amenities. Deputy Commissioner West Ahmed Ali Siddiqui outlined the progress on Manghopir Road and Orangi Highway. Deputy Commissioner Central Taha Saleem highlighted the improvement of Pakistan Highway and Allama Rashid Turabi Road. Deputy Commissioner East Abrar Jafar shared updates on Shahrah Faisal while Deputy Commissioner South Altaf Sario focused on II Chandragarh Road. Similarly, Kemari, Malir and Korangi Deputy Commissioners Raja Tariq Chandio, Salimullah Odhu and Masood Bhutto discussed the ongoing work on major roads in their respective districts.
Saleem told the meeting that patchwork repair work is in progress on Pakistan Highway, Sher Shah Suri Road and Allama Rashid Turabi Road. He also announced plans for plantation drive in collaboration with non-governmental organizations. Additionally, plans to develop a model market and park near AO Clinic along with the beautification of KDA Chowrangi with the support of the Bohra community were also discussed. Additionally, sports complexes are being constructed under the flyover in collaboration with KDA.
