LAHORE: Cold and partly cloudy weather was recorded in the city on Sunday, while the Meteorological Department has warned that the cold wave is likely to persist in most parts of the country from today (Monday) to December 14.

A westerly wave is affecting the northeastern parts of the country and is likely to move towards the northeast during the next 12 to 18 hours, Met officials said.

He predicted that mainly dry weather and cold wave is expected in most parts of the country. However, light rain with thundershowers (with snowfall over hills) is likely at a few places over Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas.

On Sunday, the minimum temperature was recorded in Leh, Skardu and Kalat where the mercury dropped to minus 07 degree Celsius while in Lahore it was 8 and maximum 21.5 degree Celsius.

The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) remained unhealthy with an average AQI of 189. The PM2.5 count was 22 times the World Health Organization’s annual PM2.5 guideline value.

The AQI of different areas of the city were Gulberg (239), Bedian Road (234), Polo Ground Cantt (204), Power Zone Head Office (201), US Consulate in Lahore (196) and WWF-Pakistan (195).

Obituary

Begum Akram Hayat Malik, mother of former MPA and former chief executive of Punjab Institute of Cardiology Dr. Nadeem Hayat Malik passed away on Sunday.

The funeral prayer will be offered today (Monday) at Khalid Masjid (Cavalry Ground, Lahore Cantt) after Zuhr prayer at 1.30 pm. Home address for condolence: 168-A Cavalry Ground, Lahore Cantt.
