This potential was realized in late September with the birth of Hurricane Helene. It increased in intensity before making landfall as a major Category 4 storm on the Florida coast.
Helene caused catastrophic flooding and extensive wind damage across large parts of the southeastern United States, from Florida’s Gulf Coast to the southern Appalachians.
