A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after two teenagers died and several others were injured in a two-car collision in East Yorkshire on New Year’s Day.
The crash, involving a Volkswagen Golf and a Vauxhall Grandland, happened at Staiths Road, Preston, near Hull, at around 01:20 GMT.
Two passengers in the Golf – a boy aged 16 and an 18-year-old man – were killed.
Humberside Police said the driver of the car has been arrested on two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
Two other passengers in the VW, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, suffered serious injuries.
Police said that the condition of the girl is critical and the condition of the boy is serious.
A passenger in the Vauxhall, a 62-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, along with the driver, a 34-year-old woman who suffered a serious arm injury.
Two other passengers in the car suffered minor injuries.
The arrested youth has been released on bail pending interrogation.
Police have appealed for eyewitnesses and dash cam footage of the crash.
