Oh Connecticut man A Florida sheriff’s sniper was shot and killed Thursday after allegedly firing more than 200 rounds at neighboring homes and officials over several hours.
The suspect, identified as Joseph De Fusco, was killed by a sniper with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, but no one else was hurt, the sheriff’s office said.
De Fusco, 56, was a snowbird who likely brought a firearm from the state because he was staying at an Airbnb, Sheriff Mike Chitwood said, according to the Daytona Beach News Journal.

After De Fusco reported having suicidal thoughts but refused medical transport, deputies responded to the Kingston Shores condominiums near Ormond-by-the-Sea around 4 a.m. Fox Orlando Deputies were called back to the area two hours later after DiFusco allegedly began firing back at neighboring units and law enforcement officers.
“Probably over 200 rounds were fired,” Chitwood said.[You could] We heard gunshots over our heads, and we were 100 yards behind.”
Chitwood said deputies made three previous visits to the condominium complex, the news station reported.

“They were not going to negotiate,” he told the news station. “Whenever we tried to negotiate, he would shoot at us. [He] Turned off his phone. He was armed with teeth.”
Neighbors were evacuated from the area. De Fusco’s family reached out to authorities before the incident, Chitwood said Fearing for their safety.
“They were so scared of it, they were sleeping in a car,” he said.
He noted that DiFusco had reportedly stopped taking his medication and hadn’t slept in days.
