Steve Smith’s explosive 64-ball 121* equaled the record for most centuries in the BBL as Sydney Sixers cruised to a 14-run victory over Perth Scorchers.
It was Smith’s third century in the last seven BBL innings, helping the Sixers post a mammoth total of 220/3 on a flat pitch at the SCG.
Smith’s innings included 10 fours and seven sixes, although his early scoring was sluggish, managing less than a run per ball in the powerplay.
He was joined by Moises Henriques, who played a blistering 28-ball 46 in the Sixers’ innings.
Both added 113 runs in just 57 balls for the third wicket.
After reaching 50 off 36 balls, which included a return of 31 from Cooper Connolly, Smith picked up the pace, scoring his second 50 off just 22 balls. His blistering finish, which included three sixes in the final over, saw him receive a standing ovation.
Ben Darshius also scored 23* off 7 balls as the Sixers added 60 runs in the last three overs, taking their total past 200. Despite a late fightback from skipper Ashton Turner, the Scorchers’ chase could not quite pick up the pace, scoring 66*. Off 32 balls
Turner was supported by Matthew Spurs as he scored 66 for the seventh wicket. However, despite their efforts, the Scorchers fell short, finishing on 206/7. Shaun Abbott was the outstanding bowler for the Sixers with 4/43.
