New York Giants The quarterback Tommy DeVito is a long shot to play Thursday against Dallas Cowboys due to an arm injury, a source told ESPN on Wednesday.
Drew Lock is in line to make his first start of the season for the Giants. Tim Boyle It will be backed up.
De Vito is officially listed as questionable and will not participate in Wednesday’s walkthrough practice.
The Giants said he did not travel with the team to Dallas on Wednesday because he was undergoing further testing. However, the team said it expects him to travel to Dallas later Wednesday.
DeVito had several big hits in Sunday’s 30-7 loss. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was making his first start of the season after the Giants released the former starter. Daniel Jones last weekend.
Coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that DeVito was not 100 percent to play because of his injury. The Giants (2-9) are also operating on a short week with just four days between games.
DeVito said after Tuesday’s walkthrough, in which he was a limited participant, that he still wasn’t sure if he could throw at full speed yet. His body was still feeling the effects of four sacks and nine quarterback hits on Sunday.
“I think if it was a regular week, Tuesday is usually when things get into your body. When you get hit on Sunday, Monday is usually a little sore; Tuesday is usually The worst day happens,” DeVito said. “So having an extra, whatever, four or five days after that usually helps.”
DeVito surprisingly replaced Jones as the Giants’ starting quarterback on Nov. 18 after spending the first 10 games of the season as the third stringer. He went 21 of 31 passing for 189 yards without a touchdown or an interception against the Bucs.
But the second-year undrafted free agent had some big hits in the competition. He left the game on the final drive before returning one play later. DeVito then took another big hit before time expired.
After benching Jones for DeVito, Dev now turns to Locke after bypassing him. Locke spent the first 10 weeks of the season as the backup, third-string/emergency quarterback to DeVito.
But Daboll selected DeVito as the starter going into the bye week. Locke was “disturbed” and “disappointed” by the decision. He vowed not to show it and instead fully supported De Vito.
Now, he’s about to make his first start for the Giants, who signed him to a one-year, $5 million deal this offseason. Locke even took some first-team reps during Tuesday’s walkthrough, unusual for a backup quarterback under Daboll.
Locke has a short week and no real practice to get ready for a Thanksgiving NFC East matchup. He will also play behind an offensive line without his starting tackles. Andrew Thomas (Foot) is on injured reserve, and Germaine Eleonore (Quad) was rejected on Wednesday.
“Just normal business. Always be ready, no matter the week, no matter the situation, just play like you’re going to go out there and play.” Locke said after Tuesday’s walkthrough. “My mindset hasn’t changed this week, and we’ll see how the rest of the week goes.”
