The conference was organized to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Centre. The event was attended by eminent international and national speakers, who spoke on various dimensions of human ethics.
The first day of the conference included an opening session by Prof. Farhat Muazzam, the founding Chairperson of the Center, followed by Dr. Cesar Ettore, a distinguished bioethics and global health scholar from Ghana, and President of the International Association. Line delivered the keynote speech. of Bioethics (IAB).
The afternoon session focused on discussing the landscape for women in Pakistan through talks by Dr. Irfana Mulla (Jamshoro) and Dr. Fatima Hassan (Karachi).
The talks on the second day included Dr. Paul Lombardo, a historian and biologist from America, Muslim philosopher and physician Avicenna. Dr. Syed Numanul Haq of IBA discussed the story of Ai Ibn Yaqin by the Muslim philosopher Ibn Tufail. Dr Nauman Faizi from the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, LUMS, critiqued dominant biological approaches and spoke about ways to deal with the ‘wicked problem’ of uncertainty.
The conference ended with an Urdu literary event in which the deep connection between Urdu literature and human values was discussed. The panel included well-known poets Iftikhar Arif and Zahra Nigham and was moderated by well-known writer and poet Haris Khaliq.
