The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday granted protective bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Awab Alvi in two cases registered in different police stations of Punjab.
Awab, son of former president Dr Arif Alvi, had approached the Sindh High Court seeking protective and interim bail in connection with two criminal cases registered against him in Taxila and Rawalpindi police stations.
The petitioner’s lawyer, Ali Tahir, had argued in the petition that the accused were implicated in false cases based on political vendetta. He said that the petitioner belonged to a political party which had been subjected to a campaign of targeted persecution for a long time and that this campaign included the removal of the party’s election symbol, the long imprisonment of its leader Imran Khan and his It involved subduing the party leadership.
He said that the purpose of the FIRs was to harass the petitioner from continuing his peaceful political struggle against the government and requested the High Court to grant him anticipatory bail to defend the charges against him in various courts of law. could
After the preliminary hearing of the petition, the High Court granted protective bail to Awab with directions to surrender before the respective courts in each case till December 23. The SHC also directed its office to take up the matter before the Constitution Bench as the petitioner also sought directions for enforcement of his rights.
Brother of Uzair Baloch
The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the federal and provincial law officers and the director general of Rangers on the petition against the enforced disappearance of the brother of the alleged gangster Uzair Baloch of Lyari. Petitioner Razia Bibi had taken the stand that Zubair Baloch was released by the court on December 4 but soon after his release he was again picked up by law enforcement officials and his whereabouts are still unknown.
The Sindh High Court was requested to direct the law enforcement agencies to produce the detained person and provide details of the cases against him. The High Court directed the respondents to comment on the petition on December 11.
