Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon has once again directed to speed up progress and remove obstacles in the Red Line Burr Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
A high-level meeting on the Red Line BRT project was held in Karachi, chaired by Memon, officials said. Secretary Transport Asad Zaman, Chairman Planning and Development Board Najam Shah, Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi, CEO of Trans Karachi Tariq Manzoor Chandio, DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz Cheema and others attended the meeting.
Asian Development Bank representative Lloyd Wright and international consultants also participated online in the meeting. During the three-hour-long session, the participants discussed in detail the obstacles facing the Red Line BRT project and their immediate solutions.
The meeting discussed the delay in transfer of utilities including water supply lines and installations by K Electric, National Telecommunication Corporation and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited.
He also reviewed the ongoing construction activities in Lot 1 and Lot 2, updating the progress with the project contractors. Memon was briefed by TransKarachi CEO Tariq Manzoor Chandio during a meeting about the hiccups in the project, particularly the lack of adequate response from the utility providers regarding the relocation of their facilities. about the
The Information Minister set a strict deadline of five days for all stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure smooth progress. He also directed the authorities to liaise with the Civil Aviation to start the work near the airport.
During the meeting, infrastructure adjustments of K-IV and K-Electric were identified as the major reasons behind the project’s delay. Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Memon said that further delay in the Red Line BRT project is unacceptable. He said that we should finish the work before the schedule. To speed up the construction work, he ordered to continue the work in three shifts.
He termed the Red Line BRT as a flagship transport project to revolutionize Karachi’s transport system and provide a modern, efficient and environment-friendly mass transit solution. He added that once completed, the Red Line BRT will provide convenient travel to thousands of commuters every day.
