Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training has called for the revival of student unions.
The committee directed the administration of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology (FUUAST) to resolve the problems faced by the students, workers and retired employees without delay. The chairperson of the committee, Senator Bushra Anjum Butt, expressed concern over the delay in the verification of students’ degrees. He stressed that after the Higher Education Commission (HEC) conducts its scrutiny, the validation process should be started immediately.
The committee met at Parliament House on Friday. Bushra stressed the need to abolish the post of interim vice-chancellor and suggested forming a dedicated committee to devise a workable solution. He highlighted that proper allocation of resources is essential to effectively address recurring issues.
Regarding the ban on student unions, Senator Masroor Ahsan stressed on clear guidelines to control their operations.
