Music mogul Sean Diddy Combs was denied bail Wednesday for the third time since his arrest in September.
The third bail application was decided by federal judge Arun Subramaniam after Coombs appeared in court on November 22. People magazine Reported
“The court finds that the government has shown by clear and convincing evidence that no condition or combination of conditions would reasonably ensure the safety of the community,” Subramaniam wrote in his decision.
The music mogul is behind bars on federal sex-crimes charges, awaiting trial at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a facility the defense has called “inadequate” for pretrial detention.
The rapper has already been denied bail by two different judges.
Former jurors cited concerns about witness tampering because prosecutors suspected Combs would likely tamper with witnesses if released.
The Bad Boy Records founder has already allegedly tried to intimidate witnesses behind bars.
“Defendant’s intent is to blackmail victims and witnesses into either remaining silent or providing helpful testimony in his defense,” prosecutors said in court filings.
Defense attorneys claimed the prosecution’s case was “thin” and proposed a $50 million bail package with strict release conditions.
Once approved, Coombs’ ability to contact others beyond his attorneys will be significantly limited and he will require 24/7 supervision.
Combs’ lawyers assured Subramaniam that if bail was granted, the music mogul would live in a three-bedroom apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
Defense attorneys explained that Combs will not have access to his cell phone, which will be in the custody of security personnel, and a log of all incoming and outgoing calls and messages will be kept. He further said that cameras were installed in the apartment.
