Parachinar/Kohat: Adviser to Chief Minister on Information Barrister Mohammad Mad Ali Saif said on Wednesday that the main roads of Karam district will be opened for public use soon. Addressing a grand jirga in Kohat, he said that bunkers would be removed from the main roads with the support of local communities. “Disarming the district of heavy weapons is indispensable for lasting peace,” he added. Emphasizing unity and cooperation to restore peace and solve ongoing problems, he said, “We must end hatred. Conflict will end.” He said the provincial government would continue to deliver medical supplies by helicopter and was considering the resumption of air travel in the region with a final decision expected in the coming days. Barrister Saif said that both the parties want peace but some elements who are profiting from unrest are obstructing it. He urged the public to help identify these elements, assuring that the government would take strict action against them. “I hope the ceasefire will hold,” he reiterated. Referring to the Murree Accord, he lamented that its implementation could have prevented the current bloodshed. “The problem of law and order in Karram has persisted from generation to generation. This Jirga should find a permanent solution so that future generations can live in peace,” he asserted. Reiterating the commitment to stand together and ensure lasting peace, he said that the government has set up a provincial-level monitoring committee comprising senior officers of the civil administration and law enforcement agencies. Barrister Saif said that “We have gathered here today as a testament to our collective desire for peace.” The closure of the main highway and the Afghan border has disrupted the supply of essential goods, including food, fuel and medicine, which has caused severe hardship to many communities, said Peshawar Parachinar Road The association has warned to start a protest campaign if its demands are not met.
