Mansehra: Chicken prices in Mansehra and other parts of the province hit a record high on Wednesday when live chicken was sold at Rs 435 per kg.
The Mansehra Poultry Shops Association has fixed the price of live broiler chicken at Rs 435, which according to industry insiders was the highest on record in recent months. 400 rupees in recent days and now it has reached to 435 rupees in Mansehra city and other cities of the province.
Locals said that the same broiler chicken was sold at around Rs 450 per kg in Torghar and Kohistan districts. Mohammad Azam, the owner of a chicken shop, said that due to the sudden increase in prices, our sales have decreased significantly. He added that prices were stable for the last two months, during which sales had increased.
“We are now seeing a significant drop in sales as the wedding season is over in the district due to severe winter.” Azam explained. Muhammad Basheer, a buyer, criticized the pricing system, saying that despite poultry being a commodity, the local industry was controlled by wholesalers in Punjab. “Mansehra is famous for poultry production, Yet its prices are set by traders in Punjab which is unfair to the local population,” he said.
