Concerns for Queen Camilla’s health appear to be mounting as the palace has been forced to make major changes to plans for a major state visit.
The wife of King Charles, who is understood to be suffering from lingering side effects of a viral chest infection, will miss the formal reception by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, accompanied by his wife Sheikha Jawahar bint Hamad bin Suhaim al-Thani.
Buckingham Palace said the official program had been changed and Camilla would not attend the Horse Guards Parade outdoor event, which King Charles and Prince William will attend on Tuesday.
She won’t even be there for the carriage ride back to Buckingham Palace.
However, Camilla is still expected to attend other elements of the state visit, such as a lunch at the palace on her return and is expected to see an exhibition at the picture gallery.
The royal has been suffering from a chest infection for several weeks, which has forced her to pull out of several public appearances, including major events in the royal calendar such as the Remembrance Sunday weekend and the Royal Variety Performance in November.
Royal doctors recommended the Queen skip these events to prevent further complications from the infection.
She reportedly contracted the virus during a trip to Australia and Samoa, which has significantly depleted her energy reserves. Hence, doctors have advised the queen to rest till she recovers completely.
