Queen Camilla bravely attended a reception today to mark Women’s Aid’s 50th anniversary, despite still feeling “exhausted” after her recent pneumonia diagnosis.
At the age of 77, Ms. shared with guests that she had been diagnosed with a chest infection that turned into pneumonia, which led to fatigue after the virus went viral.
His doctors have advised him to slow down and take more time to recover.
Earlier this week, the Queen made changes to her schedule, opting to skip outside events of the Qatari state visit to avoid standing in the cold for too long.
However, she still joined the monarch and dignitaries for lunch at Buckingham Palace, an exhibition, and an evening state banquet.
On Wednesday, she held two engagements, and today, she rounded off her duties by meeting domestic abuse survivors and Women’s Aid supporters at a star-studded reception at the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, just a short walk from Clarence House. Continued.
One notable attendee, Alice Leung, who survived partner abuse at age 16 and is now an ambassador for Women’s Aid, shared her conversation with the Queen.
“I asked how she was feeling. She said she was feeling pretty tired but was trying to wake up some bits,” Leung recalled.
Before cutting the celebratory cake, the Queen made quick remarks acknowledging the progress made by the charity: “If you think about what’s going on now compared to 50 years ago, you’ve got all on your own. Should be incredibly proud.”
She continued, “A lot of people didn’t know what domestic abuse was, especially back then. It’s scary that 50 years later it still hasn’t been eradicated, but we’re making progress.”
Queen Camilla expressed her unwavering commitment to ending domestic abuse during her speech at a Women’s Aid reception, declaring, “I have no intention, now that I have started, of stopping, and I Determined to end this.”
She called for unity in the fight against domestic abuse, saying, “We all have to work together.
You’re all doing a wonderful job, and we’re going to finish it, maybe not in my lifetime, but in some of yours.”
