LAHORE: Authorities in Punjab have stepped up efforts to dismantle the communication networks of terrorist groups as part of a comprehensive counter-terrorism strategy. The News have learned.
A senior Home Department official disclosed on condition of anonymity that strict surveillance has been imposed on entry and exit routes in the province. These measures are supported by extensive deployment of human intelligence and advanced surveillance systems to effectively counter any terrorism.
The counter-terrorism operation is focused on neutralizing the alleged threat posed by 95,471 radicalized individuals listed in a detailed government database. These include 1,400 Fourth Schedulers who are under supervision, 2,303 Afghan trainee boys, and 537 returnees from Afghan prisons. Authorities are also keeping a close eye on 1,617 locally trained boys and 96 people linked to the Lal Masjid network. Additionally, 22 returnees from Guantanamo Bay, 81 people from tribal areas, and 756 radicalized individuals have been marked for surveillance.
Law enforcement agencies, with the support of intelligence units, are using sophisticated surveillance systems and operational strategies to dismantle the communication infrastructure that facilitates terrorist activities. This includes blocking financial channels and online platforms used for extremist propaganda and communication.
The Home Department official asserted that these swift measures indicate the government’s commitment to ensure long-term security and public safety.
