Kate Middleton, who is due to host a Christmas carol service on December 6, will miss the main event at Buckingham Palace next month.
The Qatari royals – who are due to land in the UK next week – will be hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla at a lavish state banquet at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.
Kensington Palace has confirmed that Princess Kate, who will complete cancer treatment at the end of the summer, will not attend the state banquet. She will, however, attend some elements of next week’s state visit.
It is said to be the last official banquet to be held at Buckingham Palace for three years due to extensive renovation works at the royal estate.
Windsor Castle will host any future official visits until the £369 million renovation is completed.
Royal commentator Cameron Walker took to X (formerly Twitter) to share an update on Kate’s absence from the event, saying: “Kensington Palace has confirmed that the Princess will be in state at Buckingham Palace next Tuesday evening. will not attend the banquet.”
The Princess of Wales, along with Prince William, will welcome the Qatari royal family to London on behalf of King Charles. They will accompany them on Horse Guards Parade, where the Amir and Sheikha Jawaher will be given a formal welcome before being formally welcomed by the King and Queen at the Royal Pavilion.
Wells last held the role for the South Korean president’s state visit last November, as Kate was unable to attend a recent state visit by the emperor and empress of Japan due to her cancer treatment.
