Prince Harry has suffered a major blow as the inaugural chairperson of his “eco-tourism” initiative, Travelist, has resigned.
India Gary Martin, who served as chair for a year and a half, reportedly stepped down last year to focus on his work, according to a statement from the organization.
Royal observer Richard Eden observed, “Working for Prince Harry seems to be rapidly losing its appeal for the business executive.”
The resignation adds to a growing list of at least 19 senior staff members who have parted ways with organizations linked to Prince Harry, as highlighted by a royal expert.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex previously faced backlash in 2019 over accusations of hypocrisy for their frequent use of private jets despite public advocacy for environmental sustainability. The couple took four private jet trips in just 11 days this year.
Defending his actions at the time, Prince Harry acknowledged that “nobody’s perfect” and stressed the need for “balance” when dealing with such issues.
When Gary Martin initially accepted the role as Travelist’s chair, he described it as an “exciting opportunity”.
Founded by Prince Harry in 2019, Travalyst aims to promote environmentally conscious tourism. Despite the challenges, Harry continues his philanthropic efforts and was recently seen helping with wildfire relief efforts in California.
