Meghan Markle is unlikely to join Prince Harry in Britain for their next legal battle against Newsgroup Newspapers, scheduled for January 2025 at the High Court in London.
The Duke of Sussex has attended such court cases without Meghan in the past. The Duchess of Sussex has not returned to the UK since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022, fueling speculation about her absence from major events.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams suggested Meghan’s decision to stay away could be strategic, saying her presence in such a high-profile case would not be in line with her priorities.
He also noted that his recent pattern of separate public engagements has drawn attention, fueling curiosity about his emerging public activism.
Fitzwilliams told GB News: “It will be very high profile and it is likely that he (Harry) will appear as he did in the last case and there will be a lot of publicity.
“I don’t think Meghan will show up, there are a number of reasons why she won’t.
“He hasn’t done it before and it wouldn’t make sense from his point of view tactically.
“She won’t give evidence, this is the case he’s following.”
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has suggested that if Meghan Markle skips the 2025 Invictus Games in Canada, it could fuel speculation of a rift between her and Prince Harry.
Fitzwilliams noted that while the couple have focused on making separate public appearances, Meghan’s absence from such an important event would be conspicuous. Especially given her history of attending the Invictus Games with Harry since 2017
Earlier this month, Prince Harry took part alone in events tied to the upcoming Vancouver Games, a departure from the norm. Meghan previously joined him in February 2024 for promotional activities in Vancouver, making her recent absence notable.
Fitzwilliams added that any decision by Meghan not to move in with Harry would likely intensify public scrutiny of their relationship.
Fitzwilliams said: “I can say with absolute certainty that they will be there as a couple.
“They have a history of being there together and if she doesn’t, it would indicate some form of separation.”
