The country-pop crossover featuring Morgan Wallen spent six consecutive weeks at No. 1 and earned two Grammy nominations.

While the collaboration felt like a natural fit, it was years in the making.

“I’ve worked with both of them for years toward a collaboration, and it’s something we’ve always wanted to do. But it just came down to timing,” said Tyler Arnold, president of Mercury Records. Variety.

The opportunity finally arose in 2023 when Malone and Wallin teamed up with Hardy to perform a tribute to Joe Duffy at the Country Music Awards.

Arnold added, “While he didn’t write that I had some help on the trip, Post and Morgan began their creative relationship in the studio.”

The breakthrough came later that year when Malone headed to Nashville with his longtime partner Louis Bell.

He joined the powerhouse team of Wallin and Big Loud, including Charlie Handsome, Ernst, and Ashley Gurley.

“[I got a] One night a text from the studio said they’d just written about seven full songs,” Big Loud CEO Seth England recalled.

“After jotting down a lot of ideas the first night, I knew the whole project could get interesting quickly.”

Track I had some help. was born during these sessions, and excitement quickly built around its potential. Arnold clearly remembered hearing it for the first time.

“We were all very excited and could feel that it was special”, he said.
