Pakistan: The country’s largest nuclear power plant

Preparations for the country’s largest nuclear plant are underway to generate electricity in Pakistan. Pakistan’s ‘Atomic Energy Regulatory Agency’ also granted license to this Navier plant for determination. According to PNRA (Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority), this plant can generate up to 1200 MW of electricity. This nuclear plant has been named ‘Cishma Nuclear Plant Unit 5’. PNRA said that the plant is the largest power generation plant to deliver electricity through nuclear power. The plant is being developed at a cost of 3.7 billion.

According to media reports, PNRA has applied for this plant in April this year. Later in December, he got the license for it. PNA has submitted several documents along with the license application including Safety Report, Nuclear Safety Pulsation Safety, Construction, R-Waste Press and Nuclear Safety Design. PNRA says that after submitting to national and international standards, licenses have been issued to test several items.

The C-5 is a conventional generation path pure water reactor of Chinese Hualong design, capable of operating for 60 years. Pakistan already has 2 plants of this design and this is the country’s third nuclear power plant with this design. Apart from this, the remaining 2 power plants are Karachi Nuclear Power Plant Unit 2 and 3. Both these plants are functioning successfully and generating electricity for the country. C-5 was already tabled by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council. The plant is being developed at a cost of 3.7 billion. Pakistan’s installed nuclear energy capacity is about 3530 MW, which will increase to 1200 MW once C-5 is ready.
